Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG)

The topic of Climate Change and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions is included in our Sustainability Policy. We seek to comply with the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), a task force that brings together organizations worldwide with the aim of developing a common standard so that companies can measure and disclose financial risks linked to climate. These are measures to identify and mitigate climate risks and explore opportunities related to four elements: governance, strategy, risk management and targets and metrics.

Our commitment to neutralizing GHG emissions from the works delivered was intensified in the last period and has become a goal for the coming years. We neutralized all our emissions in 2022, through approved and traceable projects. The calculation is done through the GHG Protocol, which provides international quality instruments and standards for accounting emissions and publishing inventories.

In all, 29,382 tCO2e were neutralized, corresponding to 11,344 hectares of native vegetation capable of capturing carbon in one year, according to calculations by the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics-CEPEA ESALQ (USP). This amount corresponds to what is needed to produce 30,328 tons of cement, according to data from the Technical-Scientific Congress of Engineering and Agronomy (Contecc, 2018).

Through the program, we have already accumulated, in 2021 and 2022, 48,000 tons of CO2 neutralized, linked to the construction, transport of materials and maintenance of the buildings delivered during this reporting period. With the aim of advancing this issue, we are seeking to use new tools for greater data accuracy and evaluating the possibility of hiring a specialized audit.

An important point that occurred during the year was the Report to the CDP, on a pilot basis, which will provide insights into our performance on the topic. The Quality area is responsible for calculating our emissions at the construction sites and in the office, reporting to management and the Sustainability Committee.

Emissions are calculated through the GHG Protocol, which provides instruments and standards of international quality for accounting for emissions and publishing inventories. Due to the nature of our business, GHG emissions are linked to the significant use of non-renewable materials, which account for more than 97% of our emissions.

We are also attentive to indirect climate impacts generated by suppliers, especially material manufacturers. Due to our commitment to raise awareness in our value chain, we are looking for manufacturers that offer materials with lower emission rates.
