Waste and Material Management

GRI 301-1, 301-2, 301-3, 306-3

By its very nature, civil construction activities generate waste and need to manage a significant amount of the most diverse materials. For this management, we elaborate internal policies and processes, based on the environmental legislation.

The criteria include sending waste only to recyclers and avoiding landfills as much as possible; ensuring the greatest possible use of materials; implementing reverse logistics projects; and working to make suppliers and society aware of the importance of separating recyclable waste.

At our construction sites, we have online control of the receipt of materials. The resource allows the control and tracking of materials with invoice and quality stamps.

For the management of collection of recyclable waste and hazardous waste, we have the Sigor System as standard in all works. One of the main practices in waste treatment is the transfer of soil between works, which guarantees its reuse and reduces the environmental impact.

We carry out continuous assessments and approvals for suppliers of buckets, earthmoving, and waste disposal. Verification of contractual compliance is the responsibility of a technical team, which includes professionals from the areas of Quality, Sustainability, Supplies, and the site engineers. In the year, six final destinations were evaluated – five were approved and one was not because it did not meet the ESG criteria.

Final Destination Approval Visits

1

Visit made by site Engineers, Supplies, and Sustainability Team

2

Assessment made with a personalized checklist focused on environmental and social issues (in addition to legal requirements), considering seven categories and a risk and impact matrix

3

Decision-making and final homologation are carried out according to the final grade of the visit, considering Even's own methodology

4

In 2022, six final destinations were evaluated, and five were approved

To prove the destination of waste – to rubble recycling plants, cement industry and biomass factories –, we adopt the CDF (Certificate of Final Disposal). Recipients of this waste, as well as transporters, need to have adequate environmental documentation, checked in periodic inspections by professionals from our Quality area. As described in the 2022 targets, we made another solid waste reverse logistics available with paint cans inside the works. The purpose of the project is to promote the correct segregation of steel and its return to the production cycle. The project to dispose of mercury lamps was not applicable this year, due to the replacement of lighting with LED lamps.

The advancement of the reverse logistics process has enabled the recycling:

Ceramics

100% of packaging (100% of suppliers)

7,390 kg of packaging

Mortar

100% of packaging (50% of suppliers)

12,860 kg bagged

Metal scracp

100% of those leftover in operations at 100% of suppliers

37.58 tons with revenue of R$ 32,135.00

Concrete blocks

100% of leftovers (100% of suppliers)

51,650 kg

Cans and buckets of paint

100% are sent back to the distributor

128.8 kg

All our indicators are monitored monthly by the Quality area with suppliers and works. The process is also evaluated in the four-monthly internal audits in all works. The dashboards in Power B.I are updated monthly. Annually, the data are presented at the critical analysis meeting.

Mix - Landfill Diversion

Waste generated in 2022 was sent to transshipment and sorting areas, with manual or mechanized separation, and, subsequently, sent to final destinations that are reused. The rubble is sent to recycling plants that transform it into aggregates. The wood is destined for recycling for the production of biomass and energy generation. Plaster, through recycling, is now used in agribusiness and civil construction.
